Real Left invites our readers and supporters to our upcoming event on Friday 10th November at Angel Church, Islington : ‘The Fallout of Lockdowns on the Global South.’ The meeting is organised in collaboration with Toby Green, Professor of Precolonial and Lusophone African History and Culture at Kings College London, and co-author of ‘The Covid Consensus: The Global Assault on Democracy and the Poor- A Critique From the Left’ (as well as the first edition of the book: ‘The Covid Consensus: The New Politics of Global Inequality.’)
Other Featured speakers are:
Dr Reva Yunus, Lecturer on education and Social Justice at the University of York
Wellington Oyibo, Director of the Centre for Transdisciplinary Research in Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases at the University of Lagos; Nigeria
Alejandra Gonzales Rocabado from the Universidad Catolica Boliviana in La Paz, Bolivia
and Coleen Littlejohn, a retired development worker from Nicaragua.
Overseas speakers will be presenting via video link. Following the panel discussion, we will have a Q&A, followed by optional pub social after the 9:30pm finish. Please arrive well before 7pm so we can start promptly. The full address of the venue is: Angel Church, Islington, EC1R 1XD.
Copies of ‘The Covid Consensus’ will be available to buy; cash only payment.
We ask those who wish to attend to please register by either booking your ticket on Eventbrite here or emailing: realleftevents@yahoo.com so we have an idea of numbers in advance for organising purposes.
We will incur some costs for the use of venue and travel reimbursements for speakers physically present, so any donations you can make are greatly appreciated. We are very happy to take cash donations on the day.
The evening promises to be an engaging and informative opportunity to reflect on the vital but often neglected discussion of the economic, social and political consequences of lockdown and medical mandate policies- imported from the west-on middle and low income countries. We look forward to seeing you there!
