Najm Al-Dīn argues the genocide in Gaza has economic as well as political goals. By causing a new supply crisis it hastens the shift towards a “circular ” economy controlled from the centre by corporations, and in the longer term Israel may intend to turn Gaza into a new trade corridor to supplant the Suez canal and guarantee its place as a global power.
